Plant Closure: Ex-BASF Maastricht Powder Production Lines
Production activities of fine polymeric powders are phased out, and the assets are to be sold. The plant consists of a compounding installation, drying installation, milling installation, packaging installation, sieving station, spare parts and laboratory equipment.
The plant was used to produce fine polymeric powder with a narrow specification on the particle size distribution (PSD), suitable for 3D printing purposes. Typical polymers processed are polyamide (PA), polypropylene (PP) and thermoplastic polyurethane (TPU).
Dismantling of all production lines will be carried out by a plant decommissioning specialist,
with equipment handed over fully prepared for transport.
Buyers must collect their purchased assets within the assigned three-week pickup period. After this period, additional charges will apply for transport, handling, storage, and the use of lifting equipment.

Compounding Installation
The compounder is equipped with several dosing stations and an underwater pelletizer. Product can be filled into big bags.
Drying Installation
This is a vacuum dryer to dry pellets to be milled to powder. The container is a closed system, heated by means of oil and cooled with ambient air by the unit placed outside. The temperature inside the dryer can be controlled. The inside contains a rotor to stir the drying mass. A vacuum is maintained in the container while drying by means of a vacuum pump. The drying is a batch process. A crane on top allows for maintenance of various parts as well as some movement of sacks around the installation. The container has filling, discharging and view ports.

Milling Installation
The powder is produced by cryogenic milling of pellets to powder. The pellets are fed to the mill with a screw and liquid nitrogen. The pin mill has two discs that grind the pellets to a fine powder. A cyclone separates the solids and feeds it to a dryer to eliminate the formation of aggregates. When dry, the solids are sieved on a 2.6 m diameter ultrasonic sieve. Too large particles are fed back into the mainstream to the mill for an additional milling pass. Small enough particles are fed into a filter and the powders within the desired PSD range are fed to the filling station where a big bag can be safely filled.
Packaging Installation
The powder can be sold in various quantities depending on market demands. To meet demand, a big bag of powder is hoisted into a frame where this machine distributes the big bag into smaller quantities in retail packaging.

Sieving Station
Additional sieving capacity for further enhancement of powder quality.
Laboratory Equipment
To analyze the formulations and the quality of produced goods, laboratory equipment is needed. The assets are listed below.
